In the past few years, there’s been a lot of hype around the word “detox”. From teas and juices to bath salts and special diets – all promising to flush toxins out of our bodies. The truth, however, is that there is no magical pill that can stimulate the natural processes of detoxification. Your body has its own ways of cleansing itself and there is little we can do to speed up the elimination of toxins.
Nevertheless, we believe that avoiding substances that slow down the natural detoxification, while increasing the intake of essential nutrients, vitamins and bio-active substances that support the metabolic processes responsible for the elimination of toxins, can be highly beneficial for our overall health.
Today, we’ll share with you 5 of our favourite recipes that will help your body (and your skin) stay healthy, balanced and energised.
1. Epsom Salt Bath
You can never go wrong with a warm bath - especially if you add with a few drops of your favourite essential oils + Epsom salt to it.
Epsom salt is rich in magnesium – a mineral that is critical for various metabolic processes directly involved in the natural detoxification of our bodies. Besides, magnesium normalizes blood pressure, relaxes the muscles (and the mind) and keeps your heart healthy.
Our favourite recipe: Add 2 cups of Epsom salt, 1 cup baking soda, 5 drops lemon essential oil and 5 drops Grapefruit oil to a full, warm bathtub and soak for 20 minutes.
PS: Did you know that all products from La Mav's Organic Sunless Tanning range are enriched with magnesium? Enjoy sun-kissed complexion regardless of the season, along with the many benefits of magnesium!
2. Green Smoothies
Green smoothies are an excellent way to alkalize the body and boost digestion, thanks to the high content of chlorophyll (found in all greens and believed to encourage the release of toxins) as well as fibre (cleanses the colon naturally), minerals, vitamins and enzymes.
Our favourite recipe: Put spinach, kale, fresh ginger, turmeric and black pepper + a few pieces of pineapple (rich in digestive enzymes) in a blender. Add water to taste and mix everything together. The piperine found in black pepper increase the absorption of curcumin – the primary bio-active compound found in turmeric. Enjoy!
3. Green Clay Face Mask
Beauty experts agree – natural clay is, hands down, the best ingredient for purifying the skin. Even though there are many different types of clay with different benefits, all are effective at drawing toxins out and cleansing the skin in depth.
Our favourite recipe: Mix 2 tablespoons green clay, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons water. Apply a generous layer of the paste to your skin, avoiding the eye and lip area, and leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry with a cotton towel.
Note: If you have very sensitive skin, skip the apple cider vinegar.

4. Bone Broth
Bone broth is rich in minerals and vitamins that play a key role in many important metabolic processes in our bodies, including the process of natural detoxification. Bone broth is a great source of glutathione – one of the body’s most powerful detoxifying agents. Apart from improving immunity and strengthening overall health, bone broth also improves digestion, hence supports detoxification.
Our favourite recipe: We follow this recipe to prepare our bone broth.
5. Coffee Body Scrub
Regular exfoliation with coffee grounds assists lymphatic drainage and stimulates circulation, hence the elimination of unwanted substances from the body. What’s more - it leaves your skin silky smooth and glowing + boost cell turnover.
Our favourite recipe: 1 cup coffee grounds, 1 cup coconut sugar, 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, 1 cup Coconut Oil (melted or an oil of your choice), 4 drops of Lemon Essential Oil, 4 drops of Wild Orange Essential Oil, 4 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil.
